Park City Film Series is presenting “Tabloid” this weekend. For those down in the valley, come on up and stay at The Prospector this weekend for a Fall Getaway and a movie.
Playing this weekend October 7 – 9, it looks to be a great evening. Park City Film Series describes the movie Tabloid like this:
“Funny, strange, and disturbing, “Tabloid” is a vivid portrayal of a driven woman whose romantic obsessions and delusions catapult her over the edge into scandal sheet notoriety and an unimaginable life. Thirty years before the antics of today’s scandalous celebrities, Miss Wyoming, Joyce McKinney, made her mark as a tabloid staple. The salacious adventures of this beauty queen with an IQ of 168 leads her across the globe, into jail, and onto the front page of newspapers everywhere. Joyce’s labyrinthine crusade for love takes her through a surreal world of kidnapping, manacled Mormons, risque photography, magic underwear, and celestial sex–until her dream is finally realized in a cloning laboratory in Seoul, South Korea. This is an extraordinary cinematic journey.”
After the show, come back to your room and enjoy your complimentary bottle of wine and feel the warmth of the fire. A weekend to remember at the Park City Hotel that knows how to pamper their guests.
Many families have dogs so they can relate to our situation. We have a crazy one. I know this because when I look in her eyes, coming back to me is Marty Feltman’s eyes. You know the guy. Igor in Mel Brooks Young Frankenstein.
When we first met her, (Heidi the dog) she was very hyper but my thought process was that she was anxious in an adoption scenario not knowing what was going to happen to her. That was six years ago and she was two years old.
She has never slowed down (we were hoping she would with age) and mass destruction is still a common occurrence. Going on vacations have dwindled little by little. Our dog sitters aren’t sure what is wrong with her. It’s like Jurassic Park – she tests for weak points. Heidi uses brute force (25 lbs. worth) and breaks down wooden fences. We almost have a brand new fence throughout the yard.
One time on vacation, we received three voice mails. Voice mail number one: ”Heidi got out and we had her in our back yard but she got out.” Voice mail number two from the next door neighbor of voice mail number one: “We had your dog, but she slipped out the door.” And finally voice mail number three from the next door neighbor of voice mail number two: ”I have your dog with me and holding her, oh wait, she just got away, call me!” Our neighbors now call her Houdini. I kid you not, this is not fiction.
It’s funny. As much destruction as she has created in our lives, we still love her and would never want her not in our life. At least that’s how I feel, I can’t speak for my husband who takes care of the repairs.

One of my favorite moments of the week is Sunday Dinner. It is that one brief period that everyone in the family and friends take a break from their own personal life and shares time with those we care about. I remember from my childhood Sunday Dinner as a festive meal with soup or salad and a baked dessert. The entrée was usually a baked chicken or a roast beef. Mom would be in an apron and look over what she had created with pride. This was a typical household in the small farming community I lived in. Today is different but still the same. Friends and family come together on Sunday afternoons for a meal at a restaurant or the back yard with a barbecue.
No matter how the family gets together, it is still the same. That of sharing our time together with those we are connected to. Our family. We still step away from our work and play to share time and conversations with each other.
Family dinners are what we grown ups remember with fondness. We want this for our children and hope it is passed from one generation to another. That one moment of the week of laughing together and the feeling of serenity with family around you.
Park City has great events coming up for fall. One in particular that I think I’m going to go see is the “39 Steps at the Egyptian Theatre”. A mixture of comedy and mystery farce based on Alfred Hitchcock’s 1935 movie called “The 39 Steps”.
Playing September 24th and 25th, it should be fun for all. Times are Saturday at 8 pm and Sunday at 6 pm. Tickets are available through info@parkcityshows.com is playing at the Egyptian Theatre.

Labor Day Weekend at our house means good food out on the back patio. The grill has hot dogs, ribs, chicken, and hamburgers cooking and in the house we always have corn boiling and salads chillin’ in the fridge.
The badminton game seems to keep on going all afternoon with the younger generations and the grandparents looking over Photo Albums and talking about trips taken in the last year.
Our family is in charge of the grill while everyone gets involved with setting up the buffet in the kitchen. It’s always the same in a good way. The last big friend and family get together of the summer. And that’s our family tradition for Labor Day.
